Old Forge Paddle Classic

From 7:30AM to 1:00PM

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks is proud to announce the 3rd Annual Kiwanis Old Forge Paddle Classic 2012. There are two races, which will depart from the Town of Webb Navigation Dock in Old Forge Pond. A 6 Mile Race from Old Forge Lakefront to Treasure Island, on First Lake, and back, and a 12 Mile Race from Old Forge Lakefront to Alger Island, on Fourth Lake, and back. There will be awards for various categories of canoes, kayaks and guideboats. Registration is 7:30 AM – 8:50 AM will take place at The Hemmer Cottage on South Shore Road and the boats will be launched at the Town of Webb Navigation Dock and racers depart at 9:00 AM. Registration fee is $25 per adult racer and $10 per child 10 and under The race will be followed by an awards ceremony and barbeque on the lawn at Hemmer Cottage.

Farm Disaster Preparedness Training Workshop

From 8:00AM to 5:00PM

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County is offering a 2-day National training disaster preparedness workshop for area firefighters, EMT’s and first responders. The training will help area responders to a farm disaster prepare for a response to accidents involving farm vehicles on the road or the farm, farm fires or structure collapse, and storm damage.

All emergency responders are invited to attend this training at the Extension office, 121 Second Street, Oriskany.The workshop will include classroom instruction, visits to two local dairy farms, and an equipment entrapment demonstration.The program will be limited to 30 participants; the fee for the 2-day workshop is $90.00 and includes lunch, information materials and a uniform patch.

Defensive Driving Course

From 9:00AM to 3:30PM

Herkimer County is offering the six-hour Defensive Driving Course to Herkimer County residents and non-residents through the Herkimer County Clerk’s Office. It will be held at the 911 Building, 71 Reservoir Road, near the HCCC Campus. Enrollment is on a first come basis. Payment is $35.00 and includes all books and materials. You will be enrolled when payment is received. So enroll early. Upon completion of the classroom training, participants are eligible for a reduction in New York State Points and Insurance.
