2nd Annual Teen Unity Forum

From 10:00AM to 5:00PM

The Cornhill Community for Change (CCC) will host the Second "Teen Unity Forum" at the DeSales Neighborhood Center, 309 Genesee Street, Utica. Recently teen violence has come to the forefront of community issues. The incident at the Parkway Recreation Center on Friday January 11th, immediately comes to mind. It appears that youth were the majority of participants in the ruckus. In view of this, and (CCC's) efforts to empower the residents of Cornhill to take their destiny into their own hands, through the decision making process, we are once again taking a bold step in committing to deter the violence many of your are facing on a daily basis. We need to connect youth with the community in ways that will increase their self-esteem and level of competency while at the same time improving the quality of life of the community as a whole. On January 4th, 2003, at the MacFarland Theater on the Utica College Campus, CCC took a intial bold step in convening "A Teen Unity Forum" to tap into unique energy and creativity of our youth. That forum was a qualified success. Sadly it seems that another initiative is much needed with advent of a new generation of gangs in cornhill, such as "The Cornell Soldiers" and "Too High Class".
